Coffee Rubbed Steak with a Rosemary spring garnish

Coffee-Rubbed Steak Recipe - Simply The Best!

Coffee isn't just for drinking! It's a versatile ingredient that adds depth, richness, and complexity to both savory and sweet dishes. If you're a coffee lover, why not take your favorite brew from the cup to the kitchen? Here is a mouthwatering Coffee-Rubbed Steak recipe that will help you enjoy coffee in an entirely new way.

This coffee rub is rich, bold, and has a smoky flavor that pairs perfectly with juicy steak cuts. The coffee grounds add a subtle bitterness, which enhances the umami of the meat.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ribeye steaks (1-inch thick)
  • 2 tbsp ground coffee (freshly ground, dark roast)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1 tsp ancho chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Rub: In a bowl, mix the coffee, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, ancho chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Rub the Steaks: Coat each steak with olive oil, then generously apply the coffee rub on all sides.
  3. Cook: Grill the steaks over medium-high heat for 4–5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer depending on your preferred doneness.  If you choose, you can reverse-sear your steak by putting it into smoker at a temperature of 225 degrees until it reaches an internal temperature of 110 degrees.  Immediately move the steak to a ripping hot grill/cast iron skillet until it reaches the desired level of doneness (between 125 - 160 degrees).
  4. Rest: Let the steaks rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.
