Organic Fair Trade Coffee That Supports Maternal Health

42 Days Coffee is a Black-owned, organic, Fair Trade coffee company that donates 10% of its profits to organizations improving maternal health outcomes in the United States. Every bag of whole bean coffee and every Bundle of Joy Coffee Club subscription supports both coffee farmers and mothers.

Why "42 Days"?

The name comes from the World Health Organization's definition of maternal mortality:

"Death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the cause of death."
— World Health Organization

Those 42 days are a critical window for a mother's health, and they are the reason our company exists.

Who founded 42 Days Coffee?

42 Days Coffee was co-founded by Rodney V. Thompson, a Life Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated(motto: "Culture For Service and Service For Humanity"), and Dr. Crysta A. Meekins, a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated (motto: "Community Conscious, Action-Oriented"). Both founders built the company on a shared commitment to service.

Why did we start a coffee company?

We drank coffee every day but had never asked how it reached our kitchen tables. When we researched the industry, we learned that many farmers doing the hardest work are paid too little to escape poverty. We decided to source differently, buying only from Fair Trade-certified farms, so farmers receive fair pay for their work.

What is the maternal health crisis in the U.S.?

The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among high-income countries, and the CDC reports that more than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable according to the  CDC. Black women face a significantly higher risk. Better access to quality care during pregnancy and the postpartum period can save lives.

How does 42 Days Coffee support maternal health?

We pledge 10% of our profits to local and national maternal health organizations. When you buy our coffee, you help fund the people working to improve care for mothers in underserved communities.
