Our Story

42 Days Coffee was co-founded by Rodney Thompson & Dr. Crysta Meekins (Doctor of Public Health in Health Equity).  As avid coffee aficionado’s, we consumed coffee every day, but never took the time to think about how the coffee made its’ way to our kitchen tables.  Upon doing some research, and learning the history of the coffee industry, we were astounded to learn that the people performing the most challenging task in the coffee food chain (the farmers), were the people living in poverty as a result of not being fairly compensated for their work.

We are deeply concerned about the maternal health crisis in United States, which has the highest maternal mortality rate of among developed nations.  Studies have shown the vast majority of those who died could have survived had they received adequate care during and after pregnancy.  Sadly, nearly 95% of all maternal deaths occur in low-to-moderate income communities.

Our motto at 42 Days Coffee is to be the change you want to see.  To that end, we partner with local and national maternal health organizations and have pledged to donate 10% of our profits to organizations that are doing amazing work to improve maternal health outcomes.

By partnering with us through your coffee purchases, you are not only improving the lives of farmers who have been historically mistreated, you are helping to improve the maternal health experiences of women in marginalized communities.

In our everyday buying decisions, we have the power to choose whether we will be a part of the problem or a part of the solution. By only sourcing our products from farmers who are a part of a fairtrade program, we at 42 Days Coffee choose to be a part of the solution.

We look forward to having you join us along this journey.
